Web Summit Week records growth of more than 6.4% in operations with foreign cards in the District of Lisbon, compared to 2022. Total growth was more than 9%.
SIBS once again became the Official Cashless Event Partner of the Web Summit in this 2023 edition, an event that, in the week of November 11th to 19th, generated a growth of around 9% in operations in the Lisbon District compared to 2022. Analyzing only foreign cards present in the District during this period, the growth was around 6.4%. Regarding the length of stay in Lisbon of foreigners who visited the WebSummit, 40% were in the Lisbon District on the previous weekend and twenty three per cent on the weekend following the event.
SIBS Analytics also reveals that the sectors with the highest number of operations were Supermarkets (29.8%), Catering (26.3%) and Gasoline Companies (4.3%).
At the event venue, and during the four days it took place, more than 85 thousand purchases were made on the Web Summit, with an average value per purchase of €12. 81% of total operations at the venue were carried out using foreign cards from 111 different nationalities. In the TOP 5 of nationalities, the United Kingdom stands out again as the one with the highest value of transactions with 9.2% of the total, followed by Germany with 8%, Brazil with 4.5%, the Netherlands with 4.4% and Ukraine with 4.3%. The most represented countries remain in 2022, with the exception of the USA, which was replaced this year by the Netherlands. The peak of transactions occurred on November 15th, Wednesday, at 1:15 pm, a minute in which 144 transactions were recorded.
