The use of MB WAY increased by 85% in online purchases and 42% in physical purchases during Black Friday, thus maintaining the growth trend due to its convenience, simplicity and security.
On Black Friday this year, the amount spent on online purchases increased by 67% compared to the same period last year and represented 27% of the total amount spent during the day (+7% than the previous year). Overall, data provided by SIBS Analytics shows that the amount spent on purchases by the Portuguese on this day increased by 27% compared to 2023. In physical purchases, consumers spent 17% more than the previous year.
MB WAY continues to stand out as the preferred payment method for consumers who chose for online commerce, with a variation of 85% compared to last year. Also, regarding in-store purchases, payment via MB WAY increased by 42%.
It is also worth noting that the percentage of online purchases in the total purchases made on Black Friday increased compared to 2023, from 20% to 27%.
As for the value, the average amount spent on this day was 49€, which represents 4€ above the daily average spent on the other days of November 2024. In relation to the month of November 2023, the value increased more than 8€.
Regarding the type of products and services purchased on Black Friday, the biggest growth in the number of purchases in relation to the daily average for the month of November continues to be seen in the categories of “Fashion and Accessories” with an increase of 191%, “Beauty, Cosmetics and Perfumes” (+180%) and “Sports and Recreational Equipment” (+113%).
Black Week, a week filled with campaigns from brands across a range of sectors, also shows positive changes in consumption. The total amount spent increased by 18%. Online purchases registered a growth of 58% compared to 2023, and physical purchases saw a positive evolution of 9%. Also, this week, in online purchases, the preference for payment via MB WAY increased by 79%, and in stores by 34%.
